💎 CULTURAL GEMS

This summer, thousands will make the pilgrimage to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, where the past and present meet under a setting sun and a chorus of cicadas. With eight performances on deck—seven of them world premieres—it’s not just a show, it’s a cultural mic drop 2,600 years in the making.

🎭️ Oedipus, Outrage, and Other Greek Pastimes

Greek theatre wasn’t just entertainment - it was a civic ritual with wine, masks and emotional breakdowns.

The themes were heavy—fate, pride, vengeance—but the staging was pure spectacle: masked actors on stilts, dancing choruses, and audiences collectively traumatized by Oedipus’ family tree reveal.

Playwrights like Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes weren’t just writers—they were society’s sharpest critics. Comedies dragged politicians by name, tragedies wrestled with gods and guilt, and no one was safe from satire or catharsis.

And this wasn’t just for elites—the city subsidized tickets so even the broke could sob in the front row. In short: drama was democracy’s mirror—provocative, public, and surprisingly well-attended.

⛱️ Sifnos is where Cycladic charm meets low-key luxurythink whitewashed villages, golden beaches, and food so good it makes other islands insecure. It’s the kind of place where even the church bells seem to ring in perfect Instagram lighting.

· Come hungry and stay curious—Sifnos is the birthplace of Nikolaos Tselementes, Greece’s most famous chef, and its local dishes like revithada (slow-cooked chickpeas) and mastelo (lamb with dill and wine) are sacred weekend rituals.

· Explore hiking trails that date to 3000 BC: A maze of footpaths winds through olive trees and terraced fields—perfect for pretending you're in an ancient Greek version of “Eat, Pray, Hike”.

 🧑‍🍳 RECIPE OF THE WEEK

This week’s recipe is proof that Sifnos doesn’t just do sunsets—it slow-cooks soul food too.

Revithada, the island’s beloved chickpea stew, simmers overnight in a clay pot until it’s tender, fragrant, and basically a hug in edible form.
