How to Get Greece’s New Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Because what’s more Greek than unifying bureaucracy with… more bureaucracy?

As of June 3rd, 2025, Greece is rolling out a brand-new Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will replace older identifiers like your AFM (tax number) and AMKA (social security number). This new number is unique, permanent, and will now be included on all new ID cards.
Here's how to get it—either online or in person:

🖥️ Option 1: Apply Online (If you have Taxisnet credentials)

  1. Go to the MyInfo platform via gov.gr

  2. Log in using your existing Taxisnet credentials

  3. Authenticate with a one-time password (OTP) sent to your mobile (you must be registered with the EMEp platform for this)

  4. Check your data as it appears in the public records

  5. Make corrections, if needed—right there in the application

  6. Pick two characters to personalize your new PIN (you’ll get 2 out of the 3 characters that precede your AFM)

  7. Submit and you’re done—your PIN will be automatically issued and registered

✔️ You can also use this method to request a PIN for your underage children.

🧍 Option 2: Apply In Person (If you're not digitally inclined)

Starting June 23rd, 2025, head to:

  • Your local KEP (Citizen Service Center)

  • Or a Greek consular office abroad

Staff will help you complete the process there.

🧾 Key Things to Know

  • This replaces your AFM and AMKA—you’ll now use the PIN for everything

  • It’s permanent—you’ll never need to renew or reapply

  • It’s on the new ID cards—all new IDs issued from June 3rd will include your PIN

  • Already have a new-style ID? No need to get another. The number is stored digitally.
